The Fall and Sin of Man
Scripture: Romans 3:23 and Romans 5:12
Theme: All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory, and all humanity needs salvation through Jesus Christ.
Introduction
The Bible teaches us that sin entered the world through one man, Adam, and because of sin, death entered into the world. From that time forward, humanity has faced the consequences of the fall. Sin separated mankind from God, bringing spiritual death and a need for redemption.
But thank God that the story does not end with the fall of man! God provided a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ.
1. All Have Sinned
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
The Word of God makes it clear that nobody is exempt from the problem of sin. Sin is not limited to murder, stealing, or other outward acts of wrongdoing. It also includes disobedience, pride, dishonesty, hatred, and rebellion against God's will.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command in the Garden of Eden, and their disobedience brought sin into the human experience. Today, we must recognize our own sinful condition instead of pointing fingers at everyone else.
The lesson: Before we can receive God's forgiveness, we must acknowledge our need for Him. We cannot overcome sin by pretending it does not exist.
2. Sin Entered Through One Man
Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin...”
When Adam disobeyed God, sin entered the world, and death followed. The fall damaged humanity's relationship with God and brought consequences that extend beyond Adam himself.
We live in a world where sin has devastating effects on families, communities, and nations. However, we must not use Adam's sin as an excuse for our own choices. Each person is accountable to God for their own actions.
The lesson: Disobedience has consequences. What may appear to be one small act of rebellion can have effects far beyond what we imagine.
3. Jesus Christ Is God's Answer to the Fall
Although sin entered through Adam, God provided redemption through Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:19 teaches that through the disobedience of one man, many were made sinners, but through the obedience of one, many shall be made righteous.
Adam's disobedience brought sin and death, but Jesus came to bring forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life to those who trust in Him.
We cannot save ourselves through good works, religious titles, or human effort. We need the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Through repentance and faith in Him, we can be forgiven and restored to fellowship with God.
Conclusion
The fall of man reveals the seriousness of sin, but the cross reveals the greatness of God's love.
Romans 3:23 reminds us that we have all sinned. Romans 5:12 reminds us that sin entered the world and brought death. But Romans 5:8 declares that God demonstrated His love for us while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Church, we must stop making excuses for sin and start taking responsibility for our lives before God. We must repent, turn away from disobedience, and surrender our lives to Jesus Christ.
Remember: Adam opened the door to sin through disobedience, but Jesus opened the way to salvation through His obedience and sacrifice.
Call to Action: Have you acknowledged your sin and your need for Jesus Christ? Today is the day to repent, believe the Gospel, and receive the salvation God offers through His Son.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that all have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. Forgive us for our disobedience and our rebellion against Your Word. Help us to turn away from sin and walk in obedience to You. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to redeem us and restore our relationship with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
