Scripture Texts:

  • Matthew 28:19“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

  • 2 Corinthians 13:14“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”

Introduction

These two passages form a perfect bridge between mission and empowerment.

  • Matthew 28:19 tells us what to do — to go into all the world and make disciples.

  • 2 Corinthians 13:14 reminds us how we are able to do it — through the grace of Jesus, the love of the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

The Great Commission is not just a command — it’s a calling backed by divine partnership. The Trinity is not only the source of our salvation but also the power behind our mission.

1. The Great Commission — Our Assignment (Matthew 28:19)

Jesus spoke these words after His resurrection, right before ascending to the Father. They were not optional. They were the marching orders for every believer.

  • “Go” – Christianity is not passive. We are not called to simply sit in pews; we are called to move toward people.

  • “Teach all nations” – The gospel crosses cultural, ethnic, and geographical lines. No group is excluded.

  • “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” – This shows that our faith is rooted in the fullness of God’s nature. Baptism is not just a ritual; it’s an identification with the Triune God.

The mission is big, but it’s not impossible — because we are not doing it alone.

2. The Trinity — Our Power Source (2 Corinthians 13:14)

Paul closes his letter with a blessing that reminds us of the divine resources available for the mission.

  • “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ” – Grace is the unearned strength that carries us when we feel inadequate. It reminds us we are saved and sent by Jesus.

  • “The love of God” – God’s love is the fuel for our mission. We go because He loves the world (John 3:16).

  • “The communion of the Holy Ghost” – The Spirit gives us fellowship with God and with one another, and He empowers us with gifts, boldness, and wisdom.

The Trinity is not just a theological concept — it’s the living reality behind every act of evangelism.

3. The Flow of Mission — From God’s Heart to Our Hands

  • The Father’s Love birthed the plan of salvation.

  • The Son’s Grace accomplished our redemption.

  • The Spirit’s Fellowship equips and sustains us daily.

When we obey the Great Commission, we are simply participating in what the Trinity has already been doing since the beginning — reaching out in love to redeem humanity.

Application

  • Ask yourself: Where is God calling me to “go” this week? It might be across the street, across the office, or across the globe.

  • Depend on the Trinity: Let the Father’s love soften your heart, the Son’s grace remove your fear, and the Spirit’s fellowship guide your steps.

  • Remember, evangelism is not about human effort alone — it’s about divine partnership.

Conclusion

The Great Commission begins with a command — Go! — but it ends with a promise — “Lo, I am with you always.” And Paul’s benediction in 2 Corinthians reminds us that we are never without the presence and power of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Let us rise from this place with courage, knowing that the One who sends us is also the One who goes with us.
